In politics, if you want anything said ask a man, if you want anything done, ask a woman

37 degrees, body temperature

Last night as I sat and watched some wonderful mindless TV the ad break came on and the sight of a near perfect looking man appeared before me. It was an advertisement for Aero Chocolate, and this hunk of a guy talks gibberish about the perfect temperature to eat and enjoy chocolate. He is naked, except for a towel, wet and seriously buff. It is total sexism, degrades this poor simple man, uses him for nothing more than his physical condition and piercing blue eyes and all to sell a bit of chocolate.

Now if the product had been aimed at men rather than women, could the company have gotten away with the whole thing in opposite, a stunning near naked woman!, well yes they possible would have done, after all that would be nothing new, but somehow I really do not think it could have been done to quite the same level. After all I saw this man’s bare chest and they certainly could not have done that.

So what exactly is my point with this piece, well it is this, I am all for equality, I just do not get why there is still any different, why Britain all the years after Thatcher, still has a society that is not equal. After all she achieved the top job and I bet she was paid the same as a man would have been. And for the record not just in respect to sexism, but also race, colour, creed. But who is to blame?

If women want it to be equal then why take a job that is not equal, yes I know that is a very simplistic way of looking at it, but maybe the best way to solve an issue is with the most simple solution. In my life I have, more than once been described as being both sexist and racist, and I just cannot express how hurtful and wrong those claims were, for me I just do not see a colour I simply see a person, and I don’t see a woman I see a person. So when you comment and it is turned into a race or sex thing it is really wrong. Is it me? Or is it those who use this for their gain that is wrong? Well I know what I think, I know what I feel, but the world is funny like that. People will always only hear what they want to hear, and will only use what they want to use.

With the ad that features Mr Perfect, I do however wonder if in fact the joke or sexism of the ad is actually the reverse, because the voice over element features a woman who comments something like “oh he actually spoke” as though she had not been listening to the words but just had been melted by him, and I am sure that is quite belittling of her rather than him.

Finally with the man and his 37 degree theory, well chocolate for me is actually best served, and tastes best, when it is cold and it snaps, then allow it to melt in your mouth, gives off the best flavour sensation and lasts that bit longer.

The technical buff about 37degrees....

The normal core body temperature of a healthy, resting adult human being is stated to be at 98.6 degrees fahrenheit or 37.0 degrees celsius. Though the body temperature measured on an individual can vary, a healthy human body can maintain a fairly consistent body temperature that is around the mark of 37.0 degrees celsius.

The normal range of human body temperature varies due to an individuals metabolism rate, the higher (faster) it is the higher the normal body temperature or the slower the metabolic rate the lower the normal body temperature. Other factors that might affect the body temperature of an individual may be the time of day or the part of the body in which the temperature is measured at. The body temperature is lower in the morning, due to the rest the body received, and higher at night after a day of muscular activity and after food intake.

Body temperature also varies at different parts of the body. Oral temperatures, which are the most convenient type of temperature measurement, is at 37.0 °C. This is the accepted standard temperature for the normal core body temperature. Axillary temperatures are an external measurement taken in the armpit or between two folds of skin on the body. This is the longest and most inaccurate way of measuring body temperature, the normal temperature falls at 97.6 °F or 36.4 °C. Rectal temperatures are an internal measurement taken in the rectum, which fall at 99.6 °F or 37.6 °C. It is the least time consuming and most accurate type of body temperature measurement, being an internal measurement. But it is definitely, by far, not the most comfortable method to measure the body temperature of an individual.
